Shovel Knight: Spectre of Torment is the third game in the Shovel Knight series of games, and was released on March 03 2017.
Story
In a time of cursed amulets and retired heroes, the Enchantress's servant, Spectre Knight, has been given a harrowing task. He must recruit the most powerful knights from across the lands, and form an invincible order! When his task is complete, his humanity and freedom shall be restored. Now, he leaves the Tower of Fate to pursue his quarry.
Gameplay
Spectre Knight controls very differently to Shovel Knight and Plague Knight. He can walk up walls, break blocks just by jumping on them, slice diagonally through all kinds of obstacles, and grind along rails using his scythe.
The game's main area, the Tower of Fate, is this game's equivalent to the Village and the Armour Outpost, where Spectre Knight can purchase new outfits (called cloaks), additional items (this time called Curios), and access the Cursed Mirror, which will allow Spectre Knight to access the areas belonging to the soon-to-be Order of No Quarter. Because of this, this game has no world map.
After recruiting certain numbers of knights for the Order of No Quarter, you play though a short mini-level, each one revealing a short piece of Spectre Knight's past. In life, Spectre Knight was a man named Donovan, who went on adventures with his friend, Luan.
Overall, the game has a much darker tone than the previous ones.
Main characters
Spectre Knight: A dark hero, and the Enchantress's undead servant.
Reize: Luan's son, who is turned evil by the Enchantress.

A few minor characters
Red: A scarlet skeleton, who Spectre Knight can purchase Curios from.
